BETHLEHEM, Pa. — A young rock band that carries on the classic sound of Led Zeppelin has been announced as a headliner for this year's Musikfest.

Greta Van Fleet, who have been widely compared to Zeppelin with its rock hits "Highway Tune," "Safari Song" and "You're the One," will headline the festival’s main Steel Stage on a preview night 7:30 p.m. Aug. 1, the festival announced.

Musikfest is scheduled to run Aug. 2-11.

Tickets, at $45 to $109, will go on sale to ArtsQuest members at 10 a.m. Thursday and to the general public at 10 a.m. Friday, March 8, 23 at the ArtsQuest Center box office at 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem, at www.musikfest.org and 610-332-3378.

Greta Van Fleet sold out a show at Allentown's 10,000-seat PPL Center in October 2022. The capacity of Musikfest's Steel Stage is 6,200.

Greta Van Fleet comprises brothers Joshua Kiszka on lead vocals, guitarist Jake Kiszka and bassist Sam Kiszka, and drummer Daniel Wagner.

The group broke onto the scene with its 2017 EP “Black Smoke Rising,” which produced the platinum hit “Highway Tune.” That song topped the Mainstream Rock singles chart.

A second song from the EP, “Safari Song,” also hit No. 1 and sold gold.

It released a second EP, "From The Fires," that sold gold and in 2017 won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album.

In all, the group has been nominated for three five Grammys.

Its soaring, bombastic sound is what gets the band compared to Led Zeppelin. Even Led Zeppelin singer Robert Plant has commented on the similarities.

Continued success

The group continued its success with its 2018 debut full album, “Anthem of the Peaceful Army,” which hit No. 3 on Billboard's overall Albums chart and sold gold.

That disc produced two more gold, No. 1 Mainstream Rock hits: "When the Curtain Falls" and "You're the One," and the No. 3 hit, "Lover Leaver."

This is Musikfest's third rock act to be announced for what will be the festival's 41st year.

The group followed that with the 2021 album "Battle at the Garden's Gate," which peaked at No. 7 and had the No. 1 Mainstream Rock hit "My Way Soon" and the gold hit "Heat Above."

It's most recent album, "Starcatcher," released in July, peaked at No. 8. It's first single, "The Falling Sky," hit the Top 10 on the Mainstream Rock singles chart.

This is Musikfest's third rock act to be announced for what will be the festival's 41st year.

Previously announced were hard rock band Shinedown performing on Aug. 3 and Southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd on Aug. 7.

The announcement is the ninth of what Musikfest has said will be 11 headline performers for its 41st year this year.

Other Musikfest headliners previously announced are reggaeton act Jowell & Randy on Aug. 4, country music group Old Dominion on Aug. 6 and pop/hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas on Aug. 8.

Also, reunited 2000s boy band Big Time Rush will on Aug. 9, rapper Ludacris on Aug. 10 and boogie-rocking band ZZ Top on Aug. 11.

Tickets for all those shows remain on sale.
