BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Meriam Sabih nabbed the Democratic nomination for the 131st District state House seat Tuesday, according to unofficial election returns.
The Associated Press declared Sabih the winner over Jay Santos about 10:20 p.m.
That means Sabih will square off with Republican incumbent state Rep. Milou Mackenzie in November’s general election. Mackenzie ran uncontested in the primary.
The 131st District includes the Saucon Valley area and parts of Lehigh, Northampton and Montgomery counties.

"It was a pleasure to connect to the voters across the 131st district and listen to the issues that are important to them," Sabih said.
"I want to thank my opponent for a good race, but most importantly I want to thank the voters for their resounding support. I look forward to reaching out to every voter in the district so I can fight for them in Harrisburg."
Santos also said he was grateful for support from the community and the efforts of his campaign team.
"Our team fought very hard to bring smart policies to Harrisburg," Santos said.
"In the future I promise a return to normalcy, where we can feel safe our government is in good hands. It may not be the true vision that we had for all members of our district, but for now, I want all of my supporters to lean towards Mrs. Sabih who has won our district's confidence."
The nominee's campaign
Sabih’s campaign has been centered around making the state work for everyone, her website states.
She said broadening access to women’s reproductive rights, bolstering the education system and local economy, as well as maintaining green spaces, are among her goals.
A Lehigh University graduate, she also serves with her local Democratic committee.
Mackenzie, a two-term Republican, holds goals of cutting wasteful spending, strengthening small businesses and supporting veterans and their families.
