EMMAUS, Pa. — With renovations complete on the Emmaus Fire Department's Central Station, the borough now wants to use the buildings that emergency workers operated out of to help with future training.
A three-bedroom, two-bathroom Clayton Home Trailer that housed emergency responders on Lions Field during renovations is being listed on municibid.com until Wednesday, May 29.
It contains heating and A/C, as well as an electric stove and refrigerator. According to the listing, it is about 78 feet long and 15 1/2 feet wide.
As of Wednesday morning, the bidding sits at $31,200.
Funds from the sale of the trailer will go towards repairs and improvements to the borough's training facilities and simulation equipment for firefighters, according to Borough Manager Shane Pepe.
He says now that staff moved into the station, there is no longer any useful purpose they serve for the borough.
"Our departments spent two years in two trailers," Pepe said in an email.
"The building is up to date, provides adequate space for our administration as well as proper space for training, equipment, and report writing, and now meets the requirements for HIPAA compliance for an ambulance. It also provides proper ventilation and all of the appropriate amenities for emergency service response teams."
Fire department staff moved into the renovated building in December.
Pepe says the second trailer is going to replace a building at the fire training grounds.
Morale boost
Borough Fire Chief John Price said the new facilities are making things more efficient and provide a lot of needed safety improvements. He hopes these renovations can last decades to come.
"The facilities are great," Chief "The crews are making the most of it. We're very happy about improved morale."
The borough's Central Station was built in the 1980s for the then-volunteer, now-professional fire and EMS departments.
Improvements included a new classroom space for in-house training, HIPAA compliance, remade living quarters, and redesigned office spaces.
At the same time as the fire department renovations, the nearly century-old borough hall was also given a needed restoration and update.
Park restoration up next
Now that renovations are complete, the borough is looking to pursue its parks plan for Lions Field next door, which housed construction equipment and trailers over the last two years.
During 2021 and 2022, the borough completed comprehensive plans for recreation areas, including Lions Park.
The Lions Park plan calls for a repositioned baseball field, playground facilities, tree planting, and picnic tables.
A grant funded project to rebuild Lions Park is currently in the engineering phase, and Pepe said he expects the first phase of the project to go out to bid this fall.
