BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Over 100 people have filed to run in Lehigh Valley school board races this year.
School board directors may hold the most thankless elected posts in Pennsylvania. The unpaid, part-time school board directors are tasked with spending hundreds of hours each year attending meetings, establishing millage rates, overseeing school administration, approving policy and setting budgets.
The contests range from wildly crowded districts like Parkland and East Penn to Catasauqua, where only two candidates are running for five open seats.
