ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Call it Caturday in the Park.
A few months before the dog days of summer are upon us, the Lehigh Valley IronPigs minor league baseball team will hold a cat-centric promotion at 6:30 p.m. April 27 at Coca Cola Park.
The event will feature the IronPigs changing their name, at least for this one game against the Charlotte Knights, to the Cats.
The players will wear tabby-tastic jerseys and caps, making the IronPigs the coolest cats around.
Jerseys worn by IronPigs players then will be auctioned. Players’ caps will be entered into a raffle sponsored by Floor & Décor, with proceeds benefiting the Lehigh Valley Humane Society.
The IronPigs also will invite local cat rescue organizations dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming cats throughout the Lehigh Valley
Cat owners are invited to bring their leashed, harnessed or crated feline to the special game and sing “Take Meow’t to the Ballgame!”
Have always gone to the dogs
The IronPigs have consistently honored dogs every year at Coca-Cola Park, having held past promotions such as Corgis, IronMutts, IronWeiners, and IronPugs.
The time had come to give the cats their due.
“I realized we were dog-centric for years and how irresponsible it’s been to not recognize the thousands of cat-lovers we have in the Lehigh Valley. It was a catastrophe that needed to be fixed, and this was the purrrfect solution.”IronPigs President Kurt Landes
